Our Story – The History

The Guy family’s roots in the fuel business stretch back to the 1960s, when Don Guy began working as a Petro-Fina representative serving the Winchester area. Don was more than a sales representative, he was a friendly and familiar face known by the community. He built his reputation on relationships, reliability, and taking the time to get to know the people he served.

In 1986, Chris Guy built upon the foundation grounded in trust and neighbourly care and he officially formed Guy Fuels with the support of his mother, Reta. What began as a small, family-backed operation has grown into a well-established, local energy provider. Today, Chris and his wife Martine run the business together, supported by a dedicated and experienced team who share the same values the company was founded on.

Much like his father, Chris has become a familiar and friendly presence in the community. He is personally known by many customers neighbours, not just as a business owner, but as someone they can trust and rely on. This personal connection continues to define the company’s approach.

From the beginning, the focus has never been on being the biggest, but on being the most dependable. Guy Fuels has always valued customized, personalized service at fair and competitive prices. In fact, service is such a priority that the company limits its service area to a 50 km radius from Winchester. This allows the team to truly know their customers, respond quickly to their needs, and provide a level of care that larger providers simply can’t match.

As Chris reflects:

“Over the years I have built great relationships and friendships with a lot of customers. I believe that it has been a key part of our success in building a loyal customer base. To be able to get to know the customer and understand their needs is a huge advantage… Being honest and trustworthy is obviously a top priority as well.”

That philosophy extends across every part of the business, especially in supporting the local agricultural community.

“We have built a business on providing great service to our customers. I always tell our farmers that we don’t want an empty fuel tank to be the reason that they aren’t working in the fields or feeding the cows. Making sure we respond quickly to service requests and clear communication to them is key. We have a team that works to fulfill those beliefs and values and it will ensure our success into the future.”

Over nearly four decades, the company has grown steadily, investing in equipment, infrastructure, and people to better serve the community. As Chris says with a smile:

“Over the past 38 years I have bought 15 fuel trucks, 6 propane trucks and 3 service trucks. I love to buy trucks.”

Today, Guy Fuels remains proudly locally owned and operated. The company’s success is rooted in long-term relationships, customer loyalty, and a commitment to doing business the right way. The loyalty and advocacy of the community have helped shape the company into what it is today.

After 40 years, the mission remains simple: provide dependable fuel solutions with honesty, responsiveness, and neighborly care, now and into the future.
